ATLAS HOTELS’ SEARCH FOR A RANGE OF PIZZAS THAT LOOKED AND TASTED HOMEMADE LED THEM TO THE DOOR OF COUNTRY CHOICE, AND SPECIFICALLY ITS FlatStone PIZZA co. CONCEPT.

Derek Ramsay, Head of Operations at Atlas Hotels explains how he took the decision to offer Flatstone Pizza at all 52 Atlas Hotels.

We wanted a range of pizzas that had an artisan feel to them, as opposed to something that our customers might see on the shelf of a supermarket. We were also looking for a quick and easy option that could be cooked in our Merrychef ovens and added to our 24 hour menu.

When we experienced the taste and quality of Flatstone Pizza, how it was possible to have a really wide range of toppings, and how simple it was to create them, it was a bit of a no brainer for us really. Ultimately, we are now able to give our customers a greater choice, and a better product than what we had before.

Staff Training

In addition, we were really impressed with the quality of the pizzas, the excellent portion control, and how easy it is to store the ingredients. Indeed, the fact that we are able to store the ingredients frozen is a really important factor, especially at our sites that have lower customer volumes.

Although the Flatstone Pizza concept is very straightforward to operate it does require an element of staff training and the team at Country Choice have been excellent in this regard, providing help with setting up, point of sale material, and product and equipment training. All of this has made it very simple for our teams to produce great tasting pizzas and explains our decision to roll the concept out across all 52 Atlas Hotels.

People Love Our Pizzas

Customer reaction to the Flatstone Pizzas has been great – current bestsellers are Pepperoni, followed by the Meat Feast and Margherita – with uptake being driven by pop-up banners in public areas, posters in lifts, adverts on public area TV screens, menus, and our ordering app.

Whilst we are obviously delighted with the way that the Flatstone Pizzas have been received. what is crucial from a business perspective is that because they are so good, and the concept is so easy to operate, we are able to sell them with a 70% profit margin. It’s why I would urge anybody looking for a simple, quality pizza concept to look at Flatstone.
